Another year older..

So, Friday (23rd) was my 21st birthday. Interesting times. As you'l probably appreciate, i didnt spend much time with my nose in my books.

Mondays return to college was just riveting. Spent most of my time hanging about waiting for other people to show up which in the end turned out to be needless. So i was left alone from 11am- 3pm with my thoughts.

Let me tell you, there were many.

Technology with Dot was...well not great. But it flew by.

Improvisation Lesson Three

This weeks improvisation class was slightly different. Si split the classes up differently this week so those who've done less improv work and people who were more advanced are together.

Needless to say, i am less advanced.

I was given so WEIRD instrument...it kind of reminded me of an accordion. Only It was nothing like it. It was actually a cross between a recorder and a keyboard. I know, weird right?!
(any of you who know what its called??) - Photo to follow.

So yes, as id never played it before i found it strange not to be able to see what i was doing. So i had to play by ear - YAY!
Si left us to it really, and came back to hear us improvise. Again, needless to say it went dreadfully.

Still, more improv should fix that.

GLEEEE CLUB

Myself, Jodie, Jenny and Aimee gathered for the first Glee Club session.

It was soooo fun. Loads of enthusiastic kids/folk which is such a great start. Claire and i discussed how its bringing people together who have a common interest and ordinarily some of these kids/folk wouldn't normally get this opportunity. I can tell this is going to be so encouraging and really rewarding. As well as hard work...

We gathered everyone round, briefly explained a run down of how the sessions would go. We had a wee sing song and a bit of a warm up and (i think) managed to get folk abit more comfortable. A lot of the kids are quite shy.

So next week, Aimee is gonna come prepared with songs, sheet music etc. The girls and i are gonna have a meeting on wednesday to get things organised. Should be fun times.

Improvisation Lesson Two

This week, unfortunately i was taken ill at college so had to miss the joys of this weeks improvisation class.
Although, i'll be honest, from what i heard it was a good'in and i missed out.

I have homework to be getting on with from links Si sent us. Soundcloud stuff...

Improvisation Lesson One

Well, i really didn't think i would enjoy this "improvisation lark". How quickly one can be proved wrong.

I always feel very stilted and staged whenever im improvising. Theres a tendency (especially when faced with an audience) to feel embarrassed and approach the "can't do it" attitude.
I managed to over come this attitude by facing the fact i was gonna look like an idiot. There was no way round it, and at the end of the day, we were all looking like idiots.

Our first task was to rap. People who know me will know i enjoy rapping (albeit badly) but i think its hilarious especially the less serious you take yourself. With a drumbeat behind us, we were to rap our names in a phrase (Im Jilly. Jilly. I said Jilly its not JELLY its Jilly) - along those lines.

Second task. Scatting. I loathe scatting. And with an open mind, i still loathe scatting. Pretty simple concept but irritating and pointless - in my opinion Si!
